3 Helpful Tips When Selling Junk Cars For Cash

You've probably driven by a junkyard and thought nothing of the vehicles inside. After all, it's just junk, right? Turns out, people are making a lot of money selling these cars for refurbished parts and materials. If you're looking to get in on this business adventure, consider these tips first.

Become the Owner

If you see abandoned vehicles on the road, you can't just claim them as your own. You must track down the owner first, so you can obtain the title. This is required by most junkyard services, and for good reason. It proves that you didn't steal the vehicle or did something else illegal just so you can make some quick cash.

If the vehicle is on a property, locate the proper owner and see if you can come to some sort of agreement. Ideally, you don't want to pay a lot of money because you want your net gain to be substantial.

Identify the Junk Car Type

Before you can estimate how much your junk car is worth, you must first identify what type it is. There are two categories it can fall under: end-of-life vehicle and total loss. ELVs are considered inoperable, as they can't be safely driven on the road. They also can't be repaired, no matter what experienced technician works on them.

Total loss vehicles are the ones that are totaled, usually after a severe auto accident. These vehicles can be salvaged for their parts. You'll more than likely get more money for total loss vehicles since they are in better condition.

Determine a Means of Transportation

Once you've gained ownership and have identified the type of junk car you have, now you need to find a way to safely transport it to the junkyard. There are several methods you can try, depending on the condition and size of the junk car.

If it's in relatively good shape with working wheels, you can try towing the car with your vehicle. Obviously, you'd be better off doing so with a heavy-duty truck or large SUV. For junk cars that are in terrible condition, you may need to hire a professional tow company. They'll bring out a flatbed tow truck, which can effortlessly hoist the junk car onto a large platform.

Whether you're in desperate need of money or enjoy flipping materials for profit, selling junk cars for cash is a great market to get into. Just make sure you know what this process entails and make the necessary preparations. Then, you can make the most out of every junk car that comes into your possession.
